Take a lesson from the entrepreneurs who simply couldn't wait to graduate

http://www.independent.co.uk

Chris Hannaway, 20, was so unimpressed by the frozen yoghurt on sale in the shops that three years ago he and his friend Will Hammersley decided to see if they could do better themselves. The two students at Bath University created their own flavours in the university kitchen, rented a freezer, procured a Victorian ice cream cart and took their new product out into the streets of Bath.

French schools give pupils a break with afternoon sports

http://www.independent.co.uk

Gallic pride might not normally be expected to volunteer for a lesson in Teutonic efficiency. But in a move that could dramatically alter France's arduous educational culture and bring it into line with Germany's less intense model, a hundred secondary schools across the country have agreed to test a new model that lightens the academic load in favour of afternoons filled with sports.

David's story: How false accusations blighted one teacher’s life

http://www.independent.co.uk

Can Sweden teach our schools a lesson?

http://www.independent.co.uk

By September the pupils will have designed their new uniform. There is also a good chance that teachers will be the ones moving through the school at the end of each lesson, not the children – who will be staying put to reduce disruption. As Courtney Haynes, 12, puts it: "When we move out into the corridors, we're all crammed up together."

Farlingaye High School's success is down to the teachers who are passionate about their subjects

http://www.independent.co.uk

From the outside, it looks like any other post-war secondary school that has
been updated piecemeal over the years. But walk through the door and
something extraordinary is going on. There's the muted sound of laughter
from one classroom, good natured cheering from another and across the way
students appear to be heading to the four corners of the room for the active
learning part of their lesson.
